1 – Get Over Yourself
I hate to be the one to tell you but people just don’t care about Realtor’s and Realtor’s lives. They view us as a disposable service that they can call upon as and when they need us. This means that most people don’t want to be hassled by a Realtor and our “salesy/spammy” messages.
(Ouch – I didn’t pull any punches with blunder number one).
In short, if you write an endless stream of posts about your listings, open house and statements like “by the way, the greatest compliment I can receive is a referral”, your new social network “friends” will quickly tune you out and remove you as a connection. Read more..

1,845 Friends Commit Social Network Suicide
by Ross Hair on January 27, 2010
in Real Estate Social Media
Before you die in real life why don’t you practice in the virtual world?
That’s what 1,845 “friends” did when they committed virtual suicide by deleting their profiles on a number of the leading social networks like Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Linked In. For good measure they also “unfriended” 121,223 friends and deleted over 291,000 tweets.
And Facebook really doesn’t like it!
In fact they dislike it so much that they sent Moddr_ (the developer of the Web 2.0 Suicide Machine) a very nasty Cease and Desist demand. Facebook doesn’t allow you to permanently delete your own account and they also don’t want anyone messing around with “their” data.
You can read the full C & D demand right here.
This is how it works in the words of the Web 2.0 Suicide Machine creators: Read more..
Real Estate Social Media – Create a Local Community
by Ross Hair on January 24, 2010
in Real Estate Social Media

For the past year I’ve been preaching the virtues of using real estate social media to create hyper local communities.
The plan is to create your own social network (using Ning) or create a group (using Facebook) and limit membership to local residents. The group can be as small as a neighborhood or as large as a small town. The group can be real estate based or it can be an open for anything to do with the community.
When you set up the group you immediately establish yourself as a group and community leader. This recognition gives you instant local credibility and positions you to convert your new status into more real estate business. Read more..
